A Porcelain Crown Can Be Used to Cosmetically Restore an Unappealing Tooth

Here at Isle Smile, Dr. Sandy Pape understands just how important a white and winning smile is for your self-confidence. We offer a wide range of cosmetic dental treatments that can help improve the appearance of one or more unappealing teeth.

Should a tooth in your smile be afflicted by discoloration, chips, or an unsightly old filling, Dr. Sandy Pape might recommend cosmetically restoring it with a porcelain dental crown. This method of treatment will completely replace the entire affected tooth enamel layer with a special dental-grade porcelain that is brilliantly white. If you have other teeth in your smile that are mildly stained, this might be a good time to ask your dentist about a dental bleaching treatment. Our team can then match the shade of your final porcelain crown with your other lustrous white teeth.

We will start by examining the tooth and taking some X-rays. It’s important to make sure that the core of the tooth is healthy and strong.

Your dentist will then numb the area with Novocain before using a drill to remove all of the existing tooth enamel. This leaves behind the dentin core of the tooth, which will serve as an abutment to eventually anchor your crown.

Our team will then take an impression of the area before securing a temporary crown in place over the abutment. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new crown will be produced.

We will call you to schedule the second appointment once your crown is completed. During this session, your dentist will remove the temporary crown before using a strong dental adhesive to secure the porcelain crown onto the abutment.
